W.B. Hopke Nears Completion of Hazel National Landing Apartments in Arlington, VA

The Hazel National Landing apartment building, located at 3030 Potomac Avenue in Arlington, VA, consists of two mixed-use apartment buildings bordered by Crystal City, Pentagon City and Potomac Yard. The two buildings, totaling 15 and 11 stories respectively, include 491 residential units, 527,000 square feet of space, additional retail space and is an extension of the Potomac Yards Central Park.

Hopke, a subcontractor to general contractor Balfour Beatty, began the wet utilities project on May 11, 2023 and is about 90% complete. The project is tentatively scheduled for completion by spring 2024. The project consists of two complete water/fire services with 6′ x 6′ meter vaults and three fire hydrants; sanitary sewer to include one doghouse structure and four laterals; and storm that includes two jellyfish with outfall piping, two storm structures, a 15″ RCP road crossing and roof drain.

Hopke Senior Project Manager, Paul Cloutier, stated, “This project was somewhat challenging in that it required utilities coordination with the other trades, and we added another Jellyfish structure about halfway through the project. There was also some traffic control required for the installation of the 15″ RCP that ran under the main road, and we had to shut down lanes and monitor traffic while the install took place.”
