August 16, 2024 | W.B. Hopke Co. | Job Highlights
Renovations of Joseph Hensley Park, located at 4200 Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria, VA, began in 2018 by Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities (RPCA) and the City of Alexandria. The initial recommendations proposed in 2014 were amended in 2021 for the implementation for improvements to be scheduled in two phases.
The improvements to Joseph Hensley Park included a wide variety of changes such as renovations to the water and sewer, increasing parking capacity, upgrades to the sports lighting, new turf and artificial turf fields, improving ADA access, replacing restrooms, adding shelters and more.
W.B. Hopke, a subcontractor to general contractor Avon Corporation, began renovations to the sanitary and water at Joseph Hensley Park on July 15, 2024. The project to date is approximately 80% complete. The sanitary aspects of the project required a 4″ SDR 26 sanitary lateral. The water required installation of 657LF of 1″ HDPE, 21LF of 2″ HDPE and one Fire Hydrant. Hopke also will furnish and install a 1″ valve, 2″ valve and replace the existing 4″ valve and a box.
Hopke project manager, Svelta Todorova said, “The project has run very smoothly with no complications or major challenges, and barring anything unusual, the project will be completed on time.”

Hopke would like to thank the entire Hopke team for their work on this project including Project Manager – Svetla Todorova, Estimator – Charlie McClellan, Superintendent – Manual Bonilla, Foreman – Aurel Lucanu and the crew, Belter Lucero, Christina Hernanedez, Nelson Leon, Jose M.
