W.B. Hopke Wraps Up Wet Utilities Project for Central United Methodist Church Apartments in the Heart of Ballston

Unity Homes at Ballston is a 7-story apartment building with 144 affordable apartment units conveniently located right next to public transit in a dense, walkable neighborhood in Arlington, VA.

Central United Methodist Church (CUMC) has served the area with worship and community services for a century. Unity Homes at Ballston includes CUMC’s brand-new sanctuary space, an early childhood education for approximately 90 children, with a commercial grade community kitchen on the first two floors of the new building, as well as beautiful community amenities.

The wet utilities project was awarded to Hopke and work began in December 2022. It included sanitary, water, storm and drainage and was successfully completed in January 2024. The general contractor for the project was James G. Davis Construction Corporation.

“The project went flawlessly with a few minor challenges,” said Hopke project manager, Mike Fiebert. “My team worked along a busy street, and it can be a challenge at times to locate and work around other underground utilities to install our lines.”
