January 10, 2025 | W.B. Hopke Co. | Completed Projects

W.B. Hopke recently completed the Arlington Regional Transit (ART) wet utilities project in Arlington. The project located at 2629-2633 Shirlington Road, Arlington, VA took more than 1.5 years to complete and included sanitary, storm, and water.

Overseen by general contractor Turner Construction, Hopke was responsible for cutting and capping (3) sanitary laterals, and installing 500′ of 4″ – 8″ sanitary lines. Hopke also installed 1,400 feet of 6″ to 27″ storm piping and 7 structure/inlets, as well as water installation of 2 wet taps, 550 6′ to 12″ water lines with valves, Fire Hydrants and fittings. The drainage required a 60” HDPE Detention System, 2 Jellyfish structures, 6′ x 20′ x 40′ box culvert and a Bio pond, rebuilt up the stream side of a drainage ditch to a box culvert.

Paul Cloutier, Hopke Senior Project Manager said, “ The biggest challenges on this project was the Installation of 450′ of 18″ HDPE pipe for a box culvert pump around. The drainage ditch flow of water was uncontrollable at times. We also had to drop in a sanitary sewer to the depth of 32 feet.”

A special thanks to an amazing Hopke team led by Senior Project Manager – Paul Cloutier, Senior Estimator – Charlie McClellan, Superintendent – Jimbo Cloniger, Foremen – Carlos Hernandez, Ruben Saravia, Eddy Mead, Aurel Lucanu, Huntin Thomasson and Jeremiah Thompson and the crew of Robby Melgar, Juan Merino, Timothy Abrams, Marvin Pacaja and Armando Osario.
