Construction continues in Tysons Corner at the home of Capital One’s headquarters located at 1820 Capital One Drive, McLean, VA. Known as the Capital One Block D project, W.B. Hopke was awarded the wet utilities project, which is now about is 45% complete. Overseen by general contractor Gilbane Building Company, Hopke was awarded the wet utilities work on July 19, 2024 which includes sanitary, storm, water and drainage.

Paul Cloutier

The full extent of project work was outlined by Hopke Project Manager, Paul Cloutier who stated, “The ongoing project requires Hopke to install roughly (2) large sanitary structures with (2) 10″ lateral pipes. The storm work includes the demolition of roughly 1000′ of existing storm line, and the install of 200′ of RCP storm pipe, and includes (4) storm structures and the installation of a lift station vault. The water install includes the demolition of 400′ of existing water line, and the installation of 450′ of 8″ water line with 25 fittings. Hopke will also install a bio retention area and pipe for drainage.”

There are several highlights to the Capital One Block D project. Hopke is preparing to install and set in place a 10′ x 12′ 46,000 lbs lift vault. Because of the size and weight of the vault, this will require a crane. Paul said, “Our team is also installing a 450′ fire/water line. The fire line is being installed over a section of parking garage and the backfill work for this will be a challenge and may require a stone conveyer to place stone material exactly where needed.”

It takes an experienced team working in unison to complete a project of this size effectively and safely. Hopke would like to thank everyone on their team including our Senior PM – Paul Cloutier, Senior Estimator – Charlie McClellan, Superintendent – Jimbo Cloniger, Foremen – J.B. Starnes and Ruben Saravia and their crews Carlos Hernandez, Luis Morales, Timothy Abrams, Salvador Berrios, Catalino Bonilla, Jose Moreno and Omar Bonilla, Edin Vasquez, Josue Pacaja, Jesus Camacho and Jose Benitez.
