W.B. Hopke Awarded Wet Utilities for Iron Mountain Data Center Facilities in Manassas, VA

Iron Mountain Data Center announced a new project to build 2 new data center facilities in Prince William County, VA. VA-4 and VA-5 will be housed in two 165,000 square foot buildings and clients will be able to access cloud services at the facility.

The project award went to W.B. Hopke in early November 2022 and is scheduled to begin in April 2023 according to Hopke lead estimator, Charlie McClellan. Hopke will provide sanitary, water and storm installations at two buildings for the general contractor, Turner Construction. The first building is VA-4 located at 11560 Hayden Drive in Manassas VA and the second building is VA-5 located next door at 11158 Haydon Drive.

Hopke has years of experience providing sanitary, water and storm services for data centers and is currently working on several data center projects simultaneously. In fact, Hopke has previously worked on the Iron Mountain campus in Manassas on VA-2.

The original scope of work required that the project be completed within 150-160 days. The project has since been escalated to be completed within 75-80 days, and Hopke will employ multiple crews to meet the new project deadline.

The projects at VA-4 and VA-5 are typical data center layouts. Each facility will require a blow-down meter vaults and a water meter vaults. The vaults will be installed on independent lines to each building. The installation of the four vaults will require a crane to assist in the installation and excavating equipment to dig holes for the pipe.

There will be more updates about the Iron Mountain Data center project as it nears launch in April.
